Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) in Language Teaching: CapCut, Hot Potatoes, and Quizlet. CALL lets the teacher use technology in language classrooms effectively and creatively. Such application allows the teachers to design interactive materials that support students' language skills more than would be possible working just with textbooks. Applications that are really helpful for teachers include CapCut, Hot Potatoes, and Quizlet.
It does not allow the repetition of the same image or the introduction of a different one.
1. CapCut (Multimedia Language Input Creation)
CapCut is a video editing application that teachers can use to create engaging language learning videos. With the help of CapCut, teachers can design some specific listening materials with subtitles, vocabulary explanation, and pronunciation models. The teacher can create short speaking prompts or dialogue videos that can support speaking practice.CapCut is very helpful for online learning and flipped classrooms because teachers can prepare learning videos before class and ask students to watch them independently. This application supports CALL through the combination of audio, text, and visual elements within language instruction.
2. Hot Potatoes (Designing Interactive Language Exercises)
Hot Potatoes is a CALL application designed for use by teachers. It enables teachers to create Web-based interactive exercises such as multiple-choice questions, gap-fill tasks, matching activities, and short-answer questions. Such a set of exercises is helpful in the practice of grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and listening. For example, one of the advantages of Hot Potatoes is that it provides students with immediate feedback so that they can learn from their mistakes. It is quite easy for a teacher to adjust the level of difficulty according to the proficiency of the students; therefore, it could be applied to different types of learning contexts.
In other words, there are lots of possible reasons an alternative choice might emerge on Election Day that have nothing to do with the real quality of the candidate running.
3. Quizlet (Supporting Vocabulary and Review Activities)
Quizlet is yet another famous application developed by teachers to provide teachers with an easy way of developing digital flashcards and practice activities. Teachers use Quizlet to promote vocabulary acquisition through the use of flashcards, matching games, and quizzes. The audio in Quizlet also allows students to work on their pronunciation. For teachers, Quizlet is useful in reviewing lessons, homework assignments, and exam preparation. It encourages active participation and allows students to practice independently, which is much in line with the principles of CALL.
